How Much Does Stump Grinding Cost?
What stump grinding runs around Houston, what makes one stump cost more than another, and why grinding several at once is cheaper per stump.
Stump grinding is one of the more affordable jobs we do, most single stumps around Houston start around $100 and go up from there. What moves the price is the stuff you would expect once you think about it.
What changes the price
Size. A small stump from a crepe myrtle and a wide oak stump are different jobs. The bigger around it is, the more grinding it takes.
How many. Grinding one stump means mobilizing the machine for one stump. Grinding five in the same yard spreads that out, so the price per stump drops. If you have a few, do them together.
Access. The grinder has to reach the stump. A stump in an open backyard is easy. One boxed into a tight side yard behind a narrow gate takes more setup.
How deep you want it. Standard grinding goes a few inches below grade. If you are replanting a tree or laying sod, going deeper costs a bit more.
What is around it. Stumps near fences, sprinkler lines, or utilities need more care, which takes more time.
Why “average cost” online is not your cost
You will find a national average for stump grinding that means nothing for your specific stump. A 10-inch stump in the open is a different number than a 30-inch oak wedged next to your foundation. The honest way to price it is to look.
The good news: it is usually a small add-on
If we are already out removing a tree, grinding the stump while we are there is the cheapest it will ever be, no second trip, no second mobilization. That is why most folks just have us roll it in. Not sure whether you want grinding or full removal? Here is the difference.
